چکیده

Two different rollover crash scenarios were simulated with the software Madymo. The vehicle kinematics in the numerical simulation were prescribed by the use of sensor signals of real crash tests. The Madymo 50% Hybrid III dummy model as well as the Madymo human model was applied to these simulations and the model kinematics were analysed and compared. Differences in the kinematics of human and dummy occupant models in rollover crash simulation will be presented and discussed with respect to car safety issues. Questions concerning the application and validation of human models in vehicle rollover will be considered and required investigations to improve occupant model performance in rollover simulations will also be addressed.

Development of Madymo-based Model for Simulation of Laboratory Rollover Test Modes

Types of vehicle rollovers can be classified into two categories: untripped and tripped. Untripped rollovers are relatively rare events resulting from high lateral friction forces between the tires and road. Tripped rollovers are the result of lateral forces caused by the tire or wheel digging into the road or ground or from striking a curb or other obstacles. As reported in the open literature...

Biomechanical Simulation for Evaluation of Alternative Rollover Occupant Protection System Designs

The evaluation of the biomechanical performance that can be expected from alternative designs for restrained occupant rollover protection was approached through the use of finite element modeling. Finite element models of vehicle designs and the Hybrid III dummy were used to evaluate elements of alternative rollover occupant protection system designs. Results from rollover crash tests of a prod...

Finite Element Investigation of Head and Neck Injury Mechanism during Rollover Crashes

A set of state-of-the-art FE vehicle, restraint system, dummy, and whole body human models was constructed and validated against several sets of quasi-static and dynamic rollover tests. HIII dummy responses during three selected trip-over scenarios were simulated using an FE vehicle model equipped with four different roof stiffness values. It was found that the high dummy head accelerations and...

Proposing a 2D Dynamical Model for Investigating the parameters Affecting Whiplash Injuries

This paper proposes a 2D dynamical model for evaluating parameters affecting whiplash. In fact a four segment dynamical model is developed in the sagittal plane for the analysis. The model response is validated using the existing experimental data and is shown to simulate the "S-Shape" and "initial upward ramping" kinematics of the cervical spine and the resulting dynamics observed in human and...
